How Big Can Trucks Get?

April 29, 2013 By Tessa

Everyone is familiar with the standard semi truck. But how big can these hauling vehicles get? The Caterpillar 797 is a series of off-highway, ultra-class, two-axle mechanical powertrain haul trucks designed by Caterpillar, Inc. The current 797 can haul 363 tons, making it the largest payload capacity truck in the world.

The record for the longest road train is currently held by an Australian-built Mack truck, which pulled a train of 112 semi-trailers 328 feet to set a record on February 18, 2006. That train weighed 1300 tons and was 4,836 feet long. Find more amazing facts about trucks at Trucker to Trucker.

Tuition Fee Increases to Save the University System

April 25, 2013 By Tessa

A law degree will cost you $10,893 a year in Alberta and $2,437 in Quebec on average. Obviously, the most expensive academic degrees are not in Quebec. But many classes were cancelled because of protests over tuition increases in 2012. So, who should foot the bill and how much to invest in college and university education? Obviously, it is young people who take out student loans and work a second job to pay tuition fees. While tuition fee increases, the Quebec government plans to use the money for improving the quality of services and teaching, including recruiting experienced academic staff and researchers. Another idea is to increase donations by private individuals and companies that seek to have research done in college labs. These are measures to save the university system. Until then tuition cost increases are a fact.

It’s no secret that the economy has been lacklustre for the past few years, and that has been particularly disastrous for Generation Y, which has just started entering the workforce in large numbers. Having gotten their careers off to such a rocky start, many Gen Yers seem to feel that their goal of buying their own home is as out of reach as ever, and certainly less attainable than it was for their parents’ generation. But is there any validity to that sentiment? Oahu-based realtor “Aloha” Tony Kawaguchi crunched the numbers from decades’ worth of economic statistics to find an answer, which he has published in infographic form to make all the data easier to digest. Whether you’re a young professional struggling to live the American dream or a Baby Boomer wondering why their kids are having such a hard time making ends meet, you’re sure to learn something from this enlightening infographic. Its results are nothing short of controversial!
