Poverty and malnutrition affect millions of people around the world. They face social exclusion, lack of shelter and food, violence, and higher risk for chronic diseases. This is the poverty cycle, and malnutrition is the result of it. More than 900 million people around the world are malnourished. Vitamin deficiency, bloated stomach, and poor immune function are associated with malnutrition. Multiple episodes of hunger make people feel anxious, insecure, and left out. And many children live in food-insecure families and marginalized communities. They miss many days of school which translates into missed opportunities. Plan Canada works to eliminate poverty and malnutrition and improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Marginalized children are born into hunger and poverty. They deserve care, equitable schools, shelter, and food. Marginalized adults deserve to be helped or their children would be trapped in poverty.
