We eat nutritionally bankrupt foods that can be carcinogenic, toxic, allergenic, and anti-nutritional, the infographic shows. Fattening foods, frozen meals, spreads, and chips can make you sick. Keep them out of your grocery cart.
Not all foods are created equal and in fact, 95 percent of sugar beets and 85 percent of corn in the United States is genetically modified. Wonder about the advantages? Disease resistance, herbicide tolerance, pest resistance, and cold tolerance are some of them. So, what’s the problem? The potential side effects of eating engineered foods include cancer, immune suppression, and antibiotic resistance. GMOs threaten animal, plant, and marine life with extinction, causing uncontrolled environmental pollution.
GMOs are not giant vegetables with cattle growth or human genes. You won’t see vegetables walking or doing the veggie dance. Still, scientists warn about potential environmental hazards such as reduced pesticide effectiveness, harm to other species, and unintended gene transfer.
What can you do? Take to supermarket isles, join the anti-GMO rally… or go green.
