Their, they’re, or there? Some people write like they speak. There are many quirky grammar rules to remember, and mistakes are easy to make. So, you don’t want to look like the grammar police.
Reading signs and things posted on Facebook can be a lot of fun. “Shower will be shit down”. Many of us will be disappointed, whether it is shit or shut down. “Happy Memioral Day!” – if you see this on a cake, eat the topping first and then serve. “Smile Your’re on Campus Camera.” Ok, we got you, but we hope you are not in college. How about “10 items or less”? This would be perfectly fine if the items aren’t countable. And would you buy a product that says “easy removal of bowels”? This would be painful, I imagine.
We all make mistakes, even teachers. A sign that reads “Friday – no class’es” will make many kids happy. As you can see, apostrophes and commas can mix up everyone!
