And Americans burn about 150 fewer calories than they did before. They also eat more. Think of fast food joints. The 100th McDonald’s restaurant opened in Wisconsin in 1951. There are more than 12,800 McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. today. Their ham, egg, and cheese bagel has 550 calories. And a biscuit has 290! This means that a sandwich and a dessert supply 840 calories. Of course, they have wholesome options. But how many kids choose the meal that comes with apple slices?
