In Manitoba, 66 percent of people live in a detached home, and 27 percent in apartments. Detached homes are free standing units with garden space around the building. You can make renovations and modifications, but maintenance and repair costs add up. Families that live in a semi-detached home have a degree of privacy. Yet, courtyard homes are not popular in Canada. Living in an apartment also has its advantages and for one thing, it may be the only option in high-density areas. Upkeep and maintenance take less time and are less expensive. Many apartment buildings have amenities such as exercise facilities, fitness and tennis rooms, children’s playgrounds, and pools. This is what we call free entertainment. There are gated communities with a security guard at the entrance. On the downside, noise is a problem for some people. So, a detached home or an apartment? Consider parking, transportation, and police reports and be sure to know the extras.
