Japan leads the world in robotic technologies, China in renewable energy, and Canada in maple syrup and asteroid impacts! Some people call this a prejudice map. And we also have national stereotypes. Like Indians are conservative and poor. Poverty is a serious problem in India, true. But this is one of the fastest growing economies today. The Spanish are lazy. We know that siesta is part of their culture. Rather than blaming tradition, it is better to focus on GDP, economic performance, and output. And Ireland is known for pubs and drunkards. But if drinking is all they do, how come that the Irish outperform many EU countries when it comes to economic growth? And we also have narrow-minded nationalism. “Our country is uniquely good at…” While there are shared values and traditions, behavior is not restricted to a particular culture, people, or race. There are lazy people everywhere. And pubs (oh well, not everywhere).
