Strange Laws Around the World

March 11, 2015 By Tessa

What to know before you go? Travel is the most exciting thing but check out the infographic bellow because you may get in trouble without even knowing you did something wrong. For example: Did you know that in Thailand there is a rule against leaving home without underwear, or that in Minnesota you are not allowed to hang buy cialis online in australia male and female clothes on the same washing line? In Venice, Italy it’s illegal to feed the pigeons and in New Zealand it’s illegal to fly with a rooster in a hot air balloon. Go figure.

World’s Greatest Fears, Real, Unreal, and Surreal

February 23, 2015 By Tessa

Africans rate AIDS as one of the greatest threads while people in the Middle East are afraid of ethnic and religious hatred. And some fear that Europe will become Eurabia. Muslim population growth and immigration worry many. Others are concerned that liberal values are forced on ordinary people. They are anti-abortion and anti-gay and support the death penalty. Physician-assisted suicide should be abolished, they say. And it is OK for citizens to bear and keep arms. In other parts of the world like Latin America, people are afraid of nuclear arms. We worry about different things. Real or unreal.

Same-Sex Marriages: LGBT Rights Are Human Rights

February 25, 2014 By Tessa

Countries such as England, Denmark, Spain, and Belgium have granted legal recognition to same-sex marriages. The majority of countries have signed up to all human rights treaties. Yet LGBT rights are worsening in some countries. Iran has the death penalty for homosexuality. Same-sex relationships are illegal in Libya, Algeria, Sudan, and other countries. The term “state-sponsored homophobia” was coined. And reports show that LGBT inmates are a vulnerable group. They suffer from violence, torture, discrimination, and mistreatment. In Cameroon, a man was given a prison sentence for texting another man. And some people are tortured into confessing. While same-sex adoptions are legal in countries such as Hawaii, French Polynesia, and New Caledonia, LGBT rights are under attack in other countries. And even in countries where it is legal to marry, gay people face discrimination and ill-treatment. There is room for change.

National Stereotypes and Narrow-Minded Nationalism

November 25, 2013 By Tessa

Japan leads the world in robotic technologies, China in renewable energy, and Canada in maple syrup and asteroid impacts! Some people call this a prejudice map. And we also have national stereotypes. Like Indians are conservative and poor. Poverty is a serious problem in India, true. But this is one of the fastest growing economies today. The Spanish are lazy. We know that siesta is part of their culture. Rather than blaming tradition, it is better to focus on GDP, economic performance, and output. And Ireland is known for pubs and drunkards. But if drinking is all they do, how come cialischeapprice.com that the Irish outperform many EU countries when it comes to economic growth? And we also have narrow-minded nationalism. “Our country is uniquely good at…” While there are shared values and traditions, behavior is not restricted to a particular culture, people, or race. There are lazy people everywhere. And pubs (oh well, not everywhere).
