Seal slaughter is money wasted on expensive trips, monitoring activists, and lobbying. Seals are killed for oil, pelts, and meat. For many people, the meat is inedible although it is a special food and delicacy for elder Inuit. Seal oil contains PCB, which is a known carcinogen that causes fatigue, lowered immune response, and endocrine dysfunction. And the sale of seal fur is banned in the European Union and the United States. Russia followed suit and is not buying fur anymore. Yet, leading designers and fashion companies such as Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, and Gucci use and market seal fur.
Instead of killing seals, we can develop the winter industry and organize tours for those who wish to watch seals. Hunters kill baby seals that are a few months old. The war on seals should end.
