Tablet publication apps have become popular in Canada, and women’s interest is the most popular category. So, what are women interested in? Men. No, seriously, female-friendly websites are a bit of a girls’ joy today. In the past, newspapers targeted male readership. They were the breadwinners and big-ticket spenders. This was before the gender breakdown that we’ve witnessed in the past decades. More and more women are pursuing careers and refuse to take the second shift at home. They are the new divas with the dollars, and many newspapers and websites are looking for ways to attract female readership. As a result, some magazines and newspapers are stuffed with celebrity gossip, relationship and career advice, cooking tips, and other women-friendly topics. There is less politics, cars, and sport and more of what you call human coverage. Women and men use the Internet differently, and publishers are aware of this. Women rarely check sports scores or gamble online. Better give us religious, spiritual, and health information.
